Sioma Ngwezi: Barotseland's Silent Wilderness

Ngonye (Sioma) Falls from the air — the cascade that anchors this stretch of the Zambezi.

The Forgotten Park

Sioma Ngwezi is Zambia's third-largest park, yet one of its least-visited. It forms part of the Kavango–Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA), a corridor for desert-adapted elephants and rare antelope. Its isolation is the draw — and the challenge.

Ngonye Falls

A wide, horseshoe-shaped waterfall on the Zambezi — intimate and raw, and far less commercialised than Victoria Falls.

Ancient Corridors

Elephants move silently through teak forests and deep sands between Zambia and Namibia.

Expeditionary Travel

Travelling to Sioma Ngwezi favours self-sufficient explorers. It requires solid logistics, experienced guides, and tolerance for a remote frontier.

Sioma is expedition-style. Indicative per-person rates for remote Barotse camps are commonly on the order of US$500–1,200 per night; most arrangements are quoted on request given the logistics. Conservation/park fees are typically extra and set by the authority. Treat these as indicative and confirm with the operator.
